2008 Sprints
  • Based on a series of elimination sprint heats.
  • Parking generously offered to us by Mr. Jim King of Technicolor Canada Inc.
(15 Hereford St. – 2nd driveway on Edgeware).
  • Warm-up period around the crit course of say about one half hour prior to the first heats.
Registration will be closed at this moment.
  • BCC female members will compete in their own category as will BCC male members, for the club points calculations.
  • For simplicity, non-members will compete in a separate series of heats.
  • At the end, the overall finalists can have a sprint for fun bragging rights and ego staking claims.
  • Each heat will have no more than five racers.
  • The number of elimination heats will be determined by the number of participants in the event.
  • Each rider will be assigned a number, to be returned after the event, that is to be pinned to the left side of their jersey.
  • Racers will be randomly placed by their number into lanes and further elimination heats right up until the final, to keep the competition as fair as possible.
  • Each heat will have the racers complete one practice lap followed by one hot lap which culminates in a sprint that starts at the last corner on the back straight of the crit course and ends at the normal finish line (distance of approx. 300 m).
  • All BCC entrants receive one point. The finalists will receive 5 points for reaching the final plus 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 points based on their placing in the final heat. Four points go to the riders eliminated in the penultimate round of heats, three points to those eliminated in the round of heats before the penultimate one, two points in the previous round, and one point to the first people eliminated.

    So, the points distribution would typically look like this : 11 - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 .
  • At the awards banquet, the female and male BCC riders amassing the most sprint series points will be crowned as queen and king of the sprints.
