Title: 2023 Introductions
Post by: Percival Santamaria on March 24, 2023, 11:12:55 AM
Our community is now much bigger with several new members this year, welcome to the Brampton Cycling Club community!

Please introduce yourself and if you have any questions, we have plenty of experienced members who can help answer them for you.

Some questions you may have:
- Which group should I ride with?
- How do I sign up for a ride?
- How do I get my hands on that good looking club kit? :)

Good afternoon. Adam M. It's my first time joining a club. I typically ride solo or with one other riding partner. I'm trying to expand my horizons. Look forward to joining some group rides. Cheers

Hello all.  Al D here.  I am also new to club riding, but I have been riding a bit with a few other riders from our Probus club over the past few years.  Most of the Probus rides are on the Etobicoke Creek Trail north from Brampton into Caledon.  I hope to be able to increase my average speed by riding with BCC.  Hope to ride with you soon!

Hey, Chet here. I have been riding my bike casually for a few years. I love cycling and often cycle on Zwift in winters and on Etobicoke trail or in Caledon in summers. First time joining a club (the free dues promotion). I am looking forward to riding with you all.

Thanks,
Chet

Welcome @Adamridesbikes, @Al DeSaegher & @Chet! Great to have you all onboard.

Please note that Our VP Touring - Steve J, has scheduled our first BCC Group Riding Clinic for Sunday April 16th. This is a good place to start if you have no experience riding in a peloton(group)!

More about this clinic can be found in the CycleClub App.

Thanks Percival, is the app mandatory to join the group rides? Does the info not get posted here or Strava?

Also what is the best place to have discussions? This forum, Strava BCC or the app?

Thanks,
Chet

Hey, Sean here.  New to BCC and club riding in general.  A friend was nice enough to re-introduce me to riding last summer and have eagerly taken up the sport.  Enjoyed it so much I signed up for the P2A classic 75km race at the end of April... What was I thinking!  LOL, looks like it could be a lot of fun, maybe a little intense but definitely fun. Mostly solo riding so far, looking for a group of friendly people to ride with this summer.

SEAN
Welcome aboard. Lots of welcoming folks in BCC for sure. And if you did P2A you should have no problem with any of our routes.

Thanks Geoff, haven't done the P2A yet but I'm excited to try it next month.

I notice there are rides scheduled for this weekend with everyone that is registering joining the Saturday morning ride (Easy Riders).  I understand the concept of the peloton, participated in a small 3 person version with friends once or twice but no large group experience.  I know there is a riding clinic on April 16th but any issue with us new riders joining the easy riders group this Saturday?  Happy to stay at the end of the pack to not interfere with the more experienced riders.  It's well within my comfort zone for speed and length, even as a solo rider.

Hi Sean,
It should be fine to join the upcoming rides but please talk to the ride leader at the start of the ride.
Also, depending on the weather the ride may or may not get cancelled, so make sure to check the event on the app prior to heading out.

Hi!  I'm Barb Kishimoto.  I've been an active triathlete for 15 years, but I've usually bike-trained solo or with a friend or two.  I'm a little nervouse about riding in a pack, but I've signed up for the Skills Clinic this weekend.  Looking forward to meeting people!

Hi! I'm Cæsar. I have been riding with another club for about 5 years.
I did a ride with BCC last year as a guest. It was fun to ride in a peloton, so coming back for more of that.

Question: where can I find the route for a ride that is scheduled in the Cycle Club App? For example, if I join the Sunday April 23 Touring ride starting from Churchill Meadows CC. Where would I find the route?

Good morning,  my name is John W and I was riding with another club last year.  This will be my second year in road riding and looking forward to meeting the group. I think my pace would be the classic group. I'm pretty good with hills and haven't met one I didn't like.

Hi I am Neha. New to both riding and club riding. I want to get better at cycling. I only rode like 10 to 15 kms every other day. Only done 1 rode of 53 kms which motivated me to join a club so I can meet people and do more cycling. I guess I missed the workshops  hope to join some group rides soon

Hi Neha and welcome to the club.

Sounds like the Beginners group would be a good place to start. Remember to identify yourself as a new rider/member to the group leader. Please make sure that you have read and understand Group Riding Techniques found on the BCC website https://bramptoncyclingclub.com/group_riding/
Watch for the posting of additional Group Riding Clinics in the near future.

Hello, I am Derick and just coming back to cycling after 4-5 years away.  Previously rode with an organized social group which I really enjoyed.  I am hoping coming from a social group and being off the bike as long as I have I can keep up with the beginners group in 2023.  Getting dropped sucks.

Welcome Derrick.

Starting with Beginners group sounds good. If pace and distance are not enough, you can always move up to another group level. Please be sure to read and understand Group Riding Techniques found on the BCC website.

Hi Everyone! I'm Britney, I have a BMX racing background and I now coach that, however I got into casual road riding a couple years ago. I usually go by myself or with one other rider but I wanted to get more involved and go on some group rides! I am in school for Athletic Therapy at Sheridan and have a summer internship but I am hoping to make it out to a group ride at least once a week. Looking forward to meeting you all! :D

Hello New Friends  ;D
My name is Laura, and I'm very much looking forward to a great summer of riding.  I'm a new member and new to group rides, usually head out with a small group of friends on "adventures" (normally getting lost if I'm in charge of the map LOL) I started riding about 4yrs ago and has loved it ever since. Unfortunately can not make the May 6th clinic, but will keep an eye out for the next one.
Hope to meet everyone soon!!

Hi, I'm Marc Cohen living in Georgetown.  Originally from Pittsburgh Pa.  Anyone cycling in Pittsburgh has to love climbing. I do.  I travel to Pa to cycle up mountains.  I'm planning a three day trip to Altoona Pa.  for a one day, 36 mile ride with 13 miles of climbing at 13, 11, and 9 percent grades. I do parts of this ride every year.

I train up and down the escarpment and at Blue Mountain.

I'm 69 years young.

Hello everyone, Michael Barker here! I started road cycling this year in preparation for the subaru triathalon in Milton this June. Most if not all of my training has been on Zwift with some solo rides outside. To be honest it's been kind of a lonely adventure which is why I've been looking to join you great folks. Looking forward to see you on the road after finishing a few clinics.

Welcome Michael.
Club riding is the opposite of lonely.
Pretty sure that it's too late in the season to be holding any more group riding clinics.
Please be sure to read the information contained through the following links and contact VP of Touring Steve Juniper before showing up for your first group ride  :)

Hi everyone, I'm Rohit and a new member of the BCC! I moved back to Ontario from BC recently and looking forward meeting new people and an amazing summer of rides; I took up cycling when I was in Vancouver and managed to complete Whistler Gran Fondo (highly recommend). Hope to become a much better cyclist this year!

Welcome Amoke and Rohit.
Looking forward to meeting you and riding together. Every ride is a beautiful ride! And every ride makes us a better cyclist.
This link will take you to our touring page which has information and links that all new members should read. https://bramptoncyclingclub.com/touring/
If you haven't had experience riding in group formation (a peloton) then it is strongly recommended that you attend a group riding clinic prior to joining a club ride. The first of several riding clinics is posted on CCA events for April 14.
See you folks soon.
